Privacy policy
Effective 3 November 2026
This privacy policy covers the Tredanek app for iPhone and Android and the website at www.tredanek.co.uk. It explains what data they handle, where that data goes, how long it is kept, and how you can delete it.
- There are no accounts. You never give us your name, email address or password.
- Your rides, GPS routes, heart rate and bike data are stored only on your phone. We never upload them.
- No advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We never sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Only two things leave your phone. The app sends the area of a recorded ride, so it can draw a map. If you start a free trial or buy Pro, purchase records go to our payment partners.
Who we are
Tredanek is developed and published by Barnaby Nicholls, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. He is the data controller for the data described here. Questions or requests about privacy go to hello@tredanek.co.uk.
Tredanek is not made or endorsed by Yamaha or any bike manufacturer.
Data that stays on your phone
The app reads and stores the following so it can work. All of it lives in the app's private storage on your phone. None of it is sent to us or anyone else.
- Bike data from your Yamaha motor over Bluetooth: speed, cadence, assist mode, battery level, power, trip distance and odometer.
- Heart rate from a Bluetooth heart rate strap, if you pair one.
- Location (precise GPS) while you record a ride, if route recording is switched on. The app uses it to draw your route and elevation profile. It is collected only during a ride you started, including with the screen off, and stops when the ride ends. The app never tracks your location in the background otherwise.
- Recorded rides: the readings above over time, with each ride's route and the map image downloaded for it (see below).
- Paired devices and settings: the Bluetooth identifiers and names of devices you pair, your units, display and battery settings, and on Android the date your free trial started.
Permissions. The app asks for Bluetooth permission to talk to your motor and heart rate strap, and for location permission to record routes. You can refuse location and still use the live dashboard and record rides without a route. On Android, Bluetooth scanning is not used to work out your location.
Backups. If your phone's own backup is switched on (iCloud or device backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android), the app's stored data can be included in it. That backup is held by Apple or Google under your account and settings. We can't access it.
Data that leaves your phone
Ride maps
To show a recorded ride on a map, the app downloads a map image of the ride's area once and keeps it on your phone. To do this it sends the centre point of the ride's area (a latitude and longitude), the zoom level, the image size and day or night style to our map service. That service runs on Cloudflare and fetches the image from TomTom. TomTom receives only those map parameters, not your IP address or anything else about you. The request contains no ride data, no identifier and nothing else from your phone.
Like any web request, Cloudflare sees your IP address. Our service keeps short-lived request logs to keep it working, deleted within 7 days. Map images are cached by Cloudflare for up to 30 days so the same area isn't fetched twice. The cached image isn't linked to you. If route recording is off, or a ride has no route, no map is requested.
Free trial and Pro purchases
Tredanek is free, with an optional Pro upgrade bought once in the app. Payments are handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment details, name or email address. We use RevenueCat to check which purchases you own and to restore them. When the app starts and when you start a trial, buy, restore or redeem a code, RevenueCat receives:
- a random app user ID it creates, which isn't linked to your name or email address;
- your purchase history for this app: the product, price, currency, date and the store's transaction record;
- basic device and app information: device model, operating system, app version, language, and country or IP address.
On iPhone, the free trial is a free in-app item from the App Store, so it is part of your purchase history. On Android, the trial start date is kept only on your phone.
RevenueCat processes this data on our behalf and keeps it while the app's purchase records are needed, or until you ask us to delete it. Apple and Google keep their own records of your purchases under their own privacy policies.
The website
www.tredanek.co.uk sets no cookies and uses no analytics or third-party scripts. Its fonts are hosted on the site itself. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver the page and protect the site. Our request logs are deleted within 7 days.
Who we share data with
We don't sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don't use it for advertising. The only other parties involved are service providers that process data for us, and the app stores:
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | IP address and request details; the map area of a ride | Hosting the website and map service |
| TomTom | Map centre point, zoom, size and style (no identifiers) | Map images for recorded rides |
| RevenueCat | Random app user ID, purchase history, device and app information | Checking and restoring Pro purchases and the trial |
| Apple / Google | Your purchases, under your store account | Payments, refunds and app delivery |
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. They do so under safeguards recognised by UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
Why we use your data
Under UK and EU data protection law, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract: showing your bike data, recording rides you start, drawing their maps, and providing the Pro features you've bought or are trialling.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the website and map service secure and working, using short-lived logs.
- Your consent: through the location and Bluetooth permissions you grant. You can withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings.
Keeping and deleting your data
Step-by-step instructions are on Delete your data.
- Rides: delete any ride from its summary screen. Uninstalling the app deletes every ride, route, map, paired device and setting from your phone.
- Location and Bluetooth: switch off route recording in the app's Settings, or remove either permission in your phone's settings at any time.
- Purchase records at RevenueCat: email hello@tredanek.co.uk and we will delete them within 30 days. Restore purchases still works afterwards, because Apple and Google keep your purchase.
- Logs: deleted automatically within 7 days.
Security
Your ride data stays in the app's private storage, protected by your phone's own security. Everything the app and website send over the internet is encrypted with HTTPS. Our map service accepts only map requests and keeps its API key on the server, never in the app.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent. Because almost everything stays on your phone, most of this is in your hands already. For anything we or our providers hold, email hello@tredanek.co.uk and we will reply within one month. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local data protection authority.
Children
Tredanek is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. The app has no accounts and collects no names or contact details from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app or website handles data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes we will also say so in the app's release notes.
