Terms of service
Effective 5 November 2026
These terms cover the Tredanek app for iPhone and Android and the website at www.tredanek.co.uk. By installing or using the app, or using the website, you agree to them. Please read them alongside our privacy policy.
- Tredanek shows information from your bike. It is not a safety device: always rely on your bike's own display, and don't let the app distract you while you ride.
- Readings come from the motor's Bluetooth data and are best-effort. Range is an estimate.
- Tredanek is free. Pro is an optional one-off purchase, paid and refunded through the App Store or Google Play.
- Your rides are stored only on your phone. There are no backups, so deleting the app deletes them.
- Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Who we are
Tredanek is developed and published by Barnaby Nicholls, an independent developer in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can contact us at hello@tredanek.co.uk.
Tredanek is not made, approved or endorsed by Yamaha or any bike manufacturer. Yamaha and PW-X3 are trademarks of their owners, as are App Store, Apple, Google Play and Google.
What Tredanek does
Tredanek connects over Bluetooth to bikes with a Yamaha PW-X3 motor and shows live information such as speed, assist mode, cadence and battery level. It can record rides, with GPS routes and an optional heart-rate strap, and keep a history of them on your phone.
Yamaha doesn't publish how its motors share data, so Tredanek works this out independently. As a result:
- Readings are best-effort. They may be delayed, inaccurate or missing. Power is shown as an uncalibrated raw value.
- Range is an estimate, worked out from your battery level and past rides. Hills, weather, load and riding style can change real range a lot. Don't rely on it to get home.
- The app talks to the motor only to ask for its live data. It does not change your bike's settings or software.
- Tredanek may stop working with some bikes, motors or phones, for example after a motor or phone software update. We'll try to keep it working, but can't promise to.
Riding safely
You are responsible for riding safely and for following the law and the Highway Code. In particular:
- Always rely on your bike's own display for anything that matters to your safety, such as battery level and assist mode.
- Keep your eyes on the road. Only glance at the app when it's safe, and stop before you change settings.
- If you mount your phone on the handlebars, use a secure mount that doesn't get in the way of your controls or brakes.
- Plan rides with enough battery to spare. Readings and range estimates may be wrong.
Using the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Tredanek on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. If you got the app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies. If you got it from Google Play, Google Play's terms apply too.
You agree not to:
- copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app, or remove its notices;
- reverse engineer or modify the app, except where the law allows you to;
- misuse our map service or website: for example, by sending automated requests, trying to get around its limits, or trying to disrupt it;
- use Tredanek for anything unlawful.
Tredanek Pro, free trials and codes
- Pro is an optional one-off in-app purchase that unlocks the extra features described in the app when you buy it. It is not a subscription. The price is shown in the app before you pay.
- Payments are taken and handled by Apple or Google, under their terms. We never see your payment details.
- Refunds are handled by the store you bought from: Apple or Google Play. If you have a problem with Pro, you can also email us and we'll try to help.
- Where we offer a free trial, it gives you Pro for the period shown in the app. It doesn't turn into a paid purchase: when it ends, Pro features stop until you buy Pro.
- We may give out codes that unlock Pro. Codes are redeemed through the App Store or Google Play, may have an expiry date, can be used once, and can't be exchanged for money.
- Pro is linked to your store account. Use Restore purchases in the app's Settings to get it back on a new phone with the same account.
- We may improve and change features over time. If a change takes away Pro features you have paid for, you may be entitled to a remedy under consumer law.
Your rides and data
Your rides, routes and settings are stored only on your phone, and we don't keep copies. We can't recover them if they're deleted, if you uninstall the app, or if your phone is lost or reset. How we handle the small amount of data that does leave your phone is explained in our privacy policy, and how to delete it on Delete your data.
Maps and other services
Ride maps are provided by TomTom (map data © TomTom) through our map service, which runs on Cloudflare. Purchases rely on Apple, Google and RevenueCat. These services are run by other companies, and their availability and content are outside our control. We may change or stop the map service, for example if a provider withdraws it.
Changes and availability
We may update, change or stop offering the app or website, or any part of them. We don't promise they will always be available or free of errors, though we'll try to fix problems you report. We may suspend or end your use of the map service, or your licence, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
You can stop using Tredanek at any time by deleting the app.
Our responsibility to you
If we fail to follow these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure or of our not using reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable.
Because Tredanek is for personal use, we are not responsible for any business losses.
We are not responsible for decisions you make based on the app's readings or estimates, such as running out of battery on a ride. Please follow Riding safely above.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for digital content you pay for, such as Pro. For more on your rights, see Citizens Advice.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the app changes or the law requires it. We'll update this page and the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll also say so in the app's release notes. If you keep using Tredanek after a change, the new terms apply. If you don't agree with them, please stop using the app.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring them in your local courts. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections given to you by the law of the country where you live.
If you have a problem, please email us first at hello@tredanek.co.uk. We'll try to sort it out.
